A Carroll teen accused of felony sexual abuse is being charged as an adult in District Court for Carroll County. According to trial information filed Tuesday, 17-year-old Brandon Deshawn Dreesman faces one count of third-degree sexual abuse, a class C felony. A criminal complaint from the Carroll County Attorney’s Office alleges Dreesman performed sex acts upon a 13-year-old victim between Aug. 12 and Aug. 24 of this year. The charge originated in the adult courts because Dreesman was over 16 years old at the time of the incident and sexual abuse is considered a “forcible felony” under Iowa law. His arraignment hearing has been scheduled for Monday, Nov. 2. A class C felony carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
