The Iowa Democratic Party (IDP) is making a final push in rural areas of the state in an effort to ensure voters are aware of the proper methods for voting absentee. Their “I Voted Early” bus made a stop in Carroll Monday afternoon to assist individuals who had questions or concerns about voting by mail. As of Friday, more than a third of the registered voters in the listening area had already cast their ballots, and Platform Committee Chairman for the Carroll County Democrats, Ed Tomka, says he is happy to see the numbers already as high as they are.
The deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail has already passed, but individuals can still submit issued ballots if they are postmarked by Nov. 2 and received by Nov. 9. Completed ballots can also be returned to your local auditor’s office by hand where early in-person voting is still being offered. Due to the high absentee participation and voter concerns about the pandemic, Tomka expects turnout on Election Day in Carroll County to be below the norm.
Regardless of how their ballot is cast, he encourages every eligible Carroll Countian to participate in the democratic process. By Nov. 3, the IDP’s bus will have made stops in over 50 Iowa counties to encourage increased absentee voting.
