A discussion on the possible purchase of a new type of fire suppression system for the computer server room at the new Carroll County Jail will be back at the supervisor’s table next Monday. IT Technician, Dalton Morrison, brought the more than $30,000 proposal to the board last week, explaining exactly what the Clean Agent system does and does not do. According to Morrison, traditional water-based fire suppression systems will damage most if not all of the sensitive and expensive electronic equipment housed in the server room. A Clean Agent system utilizes gas instead of water, leaving the components free from water damage. He also told the board that sprinkler systems are designed to abate the fire until firefighters arrive to extinguish it. Clean Agent will extinguish the fire, also helping reduce damages to nearby spaces. Morrison said that although there is a hefty price tag for installing the new system, it would cost that and much more to replace any hardware and software damaged by fire and/or water. He added it is not unheard of for fires to happen in server rooms. The 9 a.m. meeting on Monday will also include a proposal from MidAmerican Energy related to the Iowa Statewide Interoperable Communications System (ISICS) project and a report from the weed commissioner. The meeting will be available through digital means, a link to which is found below. Questions on agenda items can be directed to the supervisors prior to the meeting by emailing supervisors@carrollcountyiowa.org. For those wanting to ask questions on agenda items during the meeting, they will need to create a YouTube channel and then subscribe to the Carroll County channel.
