A Carroll man was arrested Monday after an investigation found he had stolen over $2,000 from a local convenience store via lottery ticket theft. According to an affidavit from the Carroll Police Department, 29-year-old Joshua Michael Hoffmann is accused of playing InstaPlay tickets from Oct. 1 to Oct. 11 while employed at Sparky’s One Stop in the 400 block of U.S Highway 30. Hoffmann’s alleged plays resulted in a sale shortage of $1,648 and a paid-out shortage of $556, totaling $2,204. Authorities say video shows Hoffman playing the InstaPlay machine multiple times during this period but not paying for the tickets. He was taken into custody yesterday (Monday) and transported to the Carroll County jail, where he was charged with lottery forgery or theft, a class D felony.
