A Carroll man was taken into custody Sunday after slashing the tires of a parked vehicle early Friday morning. Carroll County District Court records show 38-year-old Shawn James Sampsel Jr. was charged with one count of fifth-degree criminal mischief, a simple misdemeanor. Authorities say Sampsel used a knife from his truck to puncture the tires of a vehicle located in the 300 block of North Clark Street, causing approximately $300 in damage. Sampsel pled guilty during his appearance before a magistrate and was sentenced to time already served in the Carroll County jail. He was also ordered to pay over $200 in fines, surcharges and court costs.
