The Lake City Council is moving forward with plans to upgrade a dead-end water main along Garfield Avenue near Goins Park. The public hearing for the $500,000 project is scheduled for their Dec. 7 council meeting. Administrator, Eric Wood, describes the work that is being proposed.
Residents will have the opportunity to voice any concerns about the project during the public hearing. Barring any major objections, Wood says they are hoping to transition quickly into bid letting and contractor selections.
The Garfield Water Main project was an item that had been on the council’s to-do list but was not a priority until they were able to combine it with funding for several other infrastructure improvements.
In total, the council bonded nearly $2.3 million for these items. The downtown street and sidewalk project finished last month with only a few items left on the punch list before officially concluding. About half of the South Street project has been postponed to next summer as colder weather begins to set in combined with delays in having buried utility lines moved. According to Wood, the Garfield Water Main project should be finished soon after construction begins.
