A raffle drawing will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) with a $500 first prize, $300 for second and $200 for third. The money raised in this raffle, however, will not be going to the originally intended purpose. Because of the pandemic, Mike McCarty, Mission Honduras coordinator for the Kuemper Catholic School system, says they are unable to take the biennial trip.
McCarty says once the decision was made to forego the 2021 trip, they began exploring other ways to provide support, particularly for that region of Honduras.
Historically, McCarty says they have been able to produce more than a quarter million meals a couple of times and neared the half million mark once. Even though they may not be able to produce the larger numbers, anything they can get to the people of that region is helpful as they are dealing with much more than just the pandemic.
Hurricanes Iota and Eta hit the country just two weeks apart, but McCarty says he got word that many people were able to shelter in the homes the students and volunteers built during past Mission Honduras trips.
McCarty says they are hoping to be able to hold the packing event in the spring of 2021 with all the Mission Honduras money raised to date shifted to that initiative. He adds they will continue to fundraise for this effort past Tuesday’s drawing as we enter into this season of giving.
Donations can be sent to either Kuemper Catholic Schools or to McCarty in the name of Then Feed Just One. Addresses for each can be found below.
