Glidden City Council Accepts Certificate Of Completion For W. 6th Street Improvements

The Glidden City Council has accepted the certificate of substantial completion for a road improvement project on the western edge of town. According to Administrator, Brooke Peterson, about a dozen homes were inaccessible for several weeks while work on West 6th Street was taking place. She says the contractor, Caliber Concrete, wrapped up construction at the end of October, and the council finalized the paperwork at last night’s (Monday) meeting.

Initially, the project was anticipated to cost $150,000, but it came in slightly over budget at $164,700. Peterson says the difference between the projected and final costs is largely due to engineering fees, but officials are pleased they managed to stay within 10 percent of the original estimate. Peterson says that stretch of road should not need repairs for quite some time following the improvements.

Street maintenance is an ongoing process for every community, and Peterson says city leaders have already identified Colorado Street as their next improvement project.

The council plans to explore their options for Colorado Street throughout the winter with construction on the project starting in the spring of 2021 at the earliest.
