Surge Of COVID At State’s Long-Term Care Facilities. Now Eight Local Facilities Reporting Outbreaks

IOWA (AP & KCIM) — Iowa reported 143 nursing homes with coronavirus outbreaks, and thousands of residents have tested positive for the virus.
The state Department of Public Health says more than 4,500 residents of care centers are infected with the virus.
State data shows 1,008 residents of long-term care facilities have died with COVID-19 in the past eight months.
The deteriorating situation for nursing homes is reflective of overall virus trends in Iowa, which on Tuesday reported 18 additional deaths.
In the Carroll Broadcasting listening area, there are now eight nursing homes reporting outbreaks. Regency Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Carroll has nine of 21 positives recovered with one new case reported in the past two weeks and they now have 12 new cases at their Jefferson location. St. Anthony Regional Hospital’s nursing facility has eleven of 26 categorized as recovered with six new cases in the past 14 days. The Exira Care Center remains at 20 reported cases with three of those now considered recovered. Eventide Lutheran Home of Denison had been cleared, but is now back on the state’s coronavirus website with zero of three cases recovered. The Denison Care Center has 37 of 41 cases listed as recovered. Two Sac County facilities have no recovered cases as of yet. Twilight Acres in Wall Lake has 14 new cases and the Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View has 11 positive cases.
