An iconic Iowa entertainment venue is being considered for naming as a National Historic Landmark. U.S. Secretary of the Interior, David Bernhardt, toured the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake in October as a part of the nomination process. The Department of the Interior oversees the National Park Services. Recognized for decades as an historic and artistic site and the centerpiece of Clear Lake’s creative placemaking efforts, the Surf would become the 27th National Historic Landmark in Iowa.
