This game was closer than the final score indicated though the Carroll Tigers never trailed and were only tied once at 2-2. The Knights trailed 48-41 with under four minutes left in the game. Camryn Schable hit a pair of free throws and then Tigers then got a 3 to make it 53-41 and they extended the lead to 59-41.

Carroll slowly built their lead throughout the first half but every time they tried to pull away the Knights answered. Carroll was up 14-7 late in the 1st quarter but Kuemper trailed 14-12 after the 1st quarter. Carroll built the lead to 21-12 in the 2nd quarter but Kuemper rallied and trailed 24-20 late in the half and were down 28-23 at the break.
Ella Collison was a big part of the Carroll offense early and had 8 points at half while Laura Sweeney led the Tigers with 10 first half points. Catherine Mayhall helped keep the Knights in the game with 10 points in the 1st half. She received some strong help from Akuet Malek who had 8 points and 7 rebounds at half.
The Tigers held Mayhall in check through most of the 3rd extending their lead to 46-29 late in the 3rd. Mayhall would finish with a game high 20 points as she got hot again in the 4th. Collison had a nice run of points for Carroll in the 3rd as she found a spot near the elbow and hit a few mid-range jumpers.
Carroll wanted to be aggressive on defense and had solid performances from Sweeney, Kennedy Lein who had to check Mayhall for good portions of the game and Gabi Hammer. Kuemper lost two of their shooters to injuries with Sarah Steffes going down in the 1st quarter and Kyndal Hilbenberg later in the game. That forced Coach Tyler Tryon to go deeper into his bench and he was pleased with the performances from Karly Baumhover, Kora Thomsen and Frannie Glynn.
Laura Sweeney and Ella Collison each had 18 points for Carroll High. Sweeney added 6 rebounds and 6 assists while Collison had 6 rebounds. Camryn Schable making her first start was solid inside with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Gabi Hammer added 5 rebounds and a team high 3 steals, Sweeney, Hannah Jorgensen and Schable each had 2 steals.
Catherine Mayhall paced Kuemper with 20 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Akuet Malek finished with 8 points and 10 rebounds. Brooklyn Gifford had 7 rebounds. Frannie Glynn added 5 rebounds. Gifford and Kora Thomsen each had 2 steals.
Carroll host Gilbert on Friday and Kuemper travels to Denison Schleswig.

Paton Churdan was able to edge out Ar-We-Va in the battle of the rockets in their season opener to begin their season 1-0. The first half was a back and forth battle with little points scored from both teams. Paton Churdan’s Tessa Steimel provided her team with five of the team’s 12 points in the first half. Ar-We-Va struggled to keep up trailing 12-6 after the first half. Ar-We-Va’s Jayden Smith led the team with a single three pointer in the first half.
The second half was all Patron Churdan, leaving Ar-We-Va in the dust. Paton Churdan’s Danielle Hoyle had a great night of scoring with 15 second half points and went five of seven from behind the line. For Ar-We-Va, Sara Schurke drained three three-pointers and finished the night with a team high 10 points. Behind her, Bridget Cameron scored six points, and Jayden Smith scored five. Ar-We-Va attempted a comeback late in the second half, but the lead for Patron Churdan was too much. The Paton Churdan Rockets brought home their first win of the season, defeating Ar-We-Va 49-32. Ar-We-Va falls to 0-1 as Paton Churdan begins their 2020-2021 season at 1-0.
Paton Churdan will host Glidden Ralsten on Friday, December 4th as Ar-We-Va is on the road to go up against Boyer Valley.

The East Sac Raiders looked to continue their winning ways against Woodbury Central at home, but fell just short. The Raiders kept the game close trailing 24-14 in the first half. Coach Jason Phillips thought his team shot well scoring 5 of 10 threes and 7 of 8 free throws while playing aggressively on the defensive side of the ball.
The Raiders were led in this game by Senior Maty Quirk who posted 15 points, four steals, and six rebounds. Other Raiders with notable stats include Junior Meredith Brown with seven points, three steals, and eight rebounds, Sophomore Mary Bontrager with six points, two rebounds, and one assist, and Junior Carly Fischer with 12 points and one rebound.
The Raiders second half effort wasn’t enough to put them over Woodbury Central. While scoring more points, East Sac closed the gap to 34-33 after the 3rd quarter. The Raiders lose 54-44 and fall to 1-1.
East Sac will travel to undefeated South Central Calhoun on Friday, December 4th.

A day removed from their loss against South Central Calhoun, the Audubon Wheelers lost a close game against AHSTW at home. The Wheelers came out of the gates swinging in the first quarter leading 8-7 but eventually lost the lead before halftime. Scoring only eight points in the second quarter, the Wheelers trailed 22-16 going into halftime.
The third quarter was just as close as the first quarter as the Wheelers scored 27 points to AHSTW’s 28. The fourth quarter is where the game was decided as AHSTW pushed ahead and gained the lead. Audubon was only able to score 14 points in the final quarter compared to AHSTW’s 23 points, almost matching their points scored up to that point. Audubon falls to 0-2 on the season as they lose 51-41.
Junior Jaci Christensen of Audubon had an impressive night to add to her resume posting 19 points, eight rebounds, one steal, and one assist. Other notable players from this game include Junior Aleah Hermansen with seven points, three rebounds, three assists, and Senior Katelyn Nielsen with nine points, five rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.
Audubon will welcome the Treynor Cardinals to town on Tuesday, December 8th.

The IKM-Manning Wolves began their 2020-2021 season with a loss against a talented Treynor squad on their home court. The first quarter was all Treynor as the Cardinals led 15-9, but the Wolves were not far behind. In the second quarter, the Cardinals were held to six points as the Wolves kept the game within three as they scored nine points. As a team defensively, the Wovles were able to post 10 steals, 17 rebounds, and 12 deflections.
The second half is where Treynor pulled away from the Wolves and expanded their lead. The Wolves struggled to shoot the ball offensively, sinking only 12 of their 49 shots attempted and committing 20 fouls. Treynor scored 31 points in the second half and eventually ran away with the victory against IKM-Manning by a score of 52-39.
For the IKM-Manning squad, Alexa Ahrenholtz led the team by a landslide scoring 22 of the team’s 39 points and posting two assists, seven rebounds, and three steals. Other notable players from this game include Bianca Cadwell posting nine points, eight rebounds, and one steal, and Taylor Ferneding with five points, six rebounds, and one steal. As a team, they scored 10 of 39 field goals, went 2 of 10 from the three point line, 13 of 22 from the free throw line.

The South Central Calhoun Titans remain undefeated as they pick up win number three against South Hamilton on the road. From start to finish, the Titans scored double digits in every quarter, not leaving room for the Hawks to score. The first half saw the Titans up 26-19 behind their impressive scoring. As a team, South Central Calhoun scored 20 of 55 field goals and 7 of 18 three pointers. This was on par with their game just the day before, where they scored 26 of 61 field goals and 8 of 18 three pointers in a win against Audubon.
Heading into the second half, the Titans slammed the gas pedal to the floor and never gave up the lead. They outdid themselves in the second half outsourcing the Hawks 28-19 and working out the Hawks defensively. While fouls were abundant for the Titans, with 21 fouls committed, they were still potent on defense posting 20 steals and 19 defensive rebounds.
Leading the Titans was Sophomore Riley Batta with 15 points, seven rebounds, 1 assist, and two steals. Other players that made an impact in this game include Sophomore Kylee Schleisman with six points, three steals, five rebounds and five assists, Junior Emma Anderson who posted six points, two rebounds, five assists, and three steals, and Freshman Chloe Judisch with seven points, five rebounds, one assist, and five steals. The Titans advance to 3-0 on the season as South Hamilton falls to 0-2.
The Titans will put their undefeated season on the line against East Sac on Friday, December 4th.

The Glidden Ralston Wildcats started off their 2020-2021 season with a painful loss to powerhouse Exira-EHK. All night long it was a losing battle for the Wildcats as they trailed 19-5 after the first quarter and 41-16 at halftime. Despite the crushing deficit, the Wildcats were able to post 12 steals and six blocks as a team. While not the way this team wanted to begin the season, Glidden Ralston came into the second half with some work to do.
The Exira-EHK Spartans posted another 19 points in the third quarter compared to Glidden’s 8 points. While the fourth quarter saw both teams score a combined six points, this was enough to put away the Wildcats in their season opener. Glidden Ralston will get crushed 64-26 in their season opener falling to 0-1.
Despite the outcome, Glidden Ralston’s Gretchen Wallace led her team with a double-double posting 15 points, 10 rebounds, five blocks, and two steals. Other notable players for the Wildcats include Kim Daily with four points, three rebounds, one assist, and two steals, and Tiela Janssen with three points, two rebounds, two assists, and three steals.
