Just in time for the Christmas season, a statewide organization has developed a virtual portal for children to be able to safely visit with Santa Claus during the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID Recovery Iowa has announced the virtual visits will run through Dec. 22 and people of all ages are being encouraged to head to Facebook to schedule an appointment time. “We understand the holiday season may look different for a lot of families this year and we want to honor the tradition of Santa visits,” says Karen Hyatt, Emergency Medical Health Specialist. “The visit doesn’t have to be about an unattainable request,” she adds. “It could be a discussion about the reindeer or what an elf is really like.” Hyatt adds, this is just one of many creative ways that COVID Recovery Iowa is helping Iowans cope with the winter months and throughout the pandemic. They offer free and confidential virtual counseling, support groups, personal support, fun activities and referrals. A link to the Facebook page to schedule a Santa visit and contact details to get information on other programs can be found below.
