Outdoing themselves, the Rockets would go on to score 17 points in the second quarter, the most single quarter points scored this season for Ar-We-Va. Coon Rapids Bayard At CAM Anita

CAM: 71

Coon Rapids Bayard: 41

The Coon Rapids Bayard Crusaders were unable to knock off the undefeated CAM Cougars on their home court Tuesday night. The first quarter was the closest the Crusaders would be all night as they ended the first quarter behind 15-13. The second quarter is where the deficit started to slip away from the Crusaders as the Cougars put up 16 points in the second quarter to make it 31-20 at halftime.

Leaving the Crusaders little room to think, the Cougars came back from halftime and dominated. Crusaders Coach Kaitlyn McAlister says her team was able to cut down the Cougar’s lead to seven in the third quarter, but later the Cougars went on a 13-4 run to extend their lead. In the third quarter, the Cougars scored 21 points compared to Coon Rapids Bayard’s 11 and held a commanding 52-32 lead heading into the final quarter of play. Even though they scored less in the fourth quarter, the Cougars banked in 19 points while the Crusaders posted nine points to end their night. The Crusaders fell to the CAM Cougars 71-41.

For the Crusaders, Miranda Garcia posted a team high 12 points. Not too far behind her was Brynn Bass with seven points, and Mia Leighty, Alaya Betts, and Breeley Clayburg all with six points each. Coach McAlister says the Cougars’ manpower was a problem for her team and their ability to rotate in nine of their 10 players this game was troublesome. The Crusaders fall to 1-2 as the CAM Cougars improve to 4-0 on the season.

The Crusaders will travel to Paton Churdan for a conference matchup on Friday, December 11th.

A slow start for the Wheelers put them far enough behind their rally late in the 3rd and 4th quarter fell short.
