Ongoing Fundraiser Helps Keeps Foster Grandparents Active–Especially During The Pandemic

One of the most at-risk groups for more severe COVID-19 impact, the elderly, are also the ones who may be suffering the most from feelings of isolation and loneliness. In a typical year, a countywide initiative, the Foster Grandparents Program, provided a means for socialization and interaction for these individuals. But in 2020, Director, Terri Taylor, says her volunteers have been pulled from their normal duties as Foster Grandparents.

Taylor says she has heard time and time again how meaningful this program is.

In years past, the volunteers would interact with infants at the daycare, read to and play with head start and young elementary students and they had one-on-one sessions with some of the older elementary students. They also assist at their local libraries throughout the county. As a non-profit organization, the Foster Grandparent program relies on local, state and federal funding as well as the generosity of county residents. Taylor says they have an ongoing fundraising option they will be using to help with administrative costs as well as with supplies seniors need to participate.

Rada Cutlery, Taylor says, sells much more than just great knives, knife sets and other forms of cutlery.

The great thing about this fundraiser, Taylor adds, is that it will be ongoing and open for orders well beyond the holiday season.
