Iowa Board Of Pharmacy Warns Of Spike In Fraudulent Prescription Requests

Officials are cautioning hospitals and pharmacies in the state to be wary of a recent string of fraudulent prescriptions being faxed into pharmacies. According to the Iowa Board of Pharmacy, the falsified orders have mostly been reported in central and southeast Iowa and generally request an innocuous-appearing prescription for antibiotics and promethazine, an anti-nausea medication, with codeine. Providers are asked to exercise due diligence when presented prescriptions for controlled substances. In the event fraud is suspected, the board recommends contacting your local law enforcement.
