The Lake City Council cleared another hurdle at Monday’s meeting as they move forward with a proposed water main improvement project in the northwest corner of town. Officials hosted a public hearing on the plans, specifications, form of contract and estimated cost of creating a main loop along Garfield Avenue that should increase water pressure for customers on the line. No written or oral comments were received during the hearing. Administrator, Eric Wood, explains what comes next for the project.
The project is anticipated to cost from around $250,000 to as much as $300,000, but a more accurate figure will be available once city officials select the winning bid. Wood expects a swift transition from contractor selection to construction.
Homes on the northern portion of Garfield Avenue are currently served by a dead-end water main. By extending that line and reconnecting it at a different point in the system, Wood says it should provide more consistent service in the area and provide opportunities for additional residential development.
