Sac City Woman Killed Monday Morning In Two-Vehicle Accident Near Early

A Sac City woman was killed Monday morning following a two-vehicle accident north of Early. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately 8:52 a.m. on U.S. Highway 71 just north of the intersection with 190th Street. Their initial investigation revealed a 2021 Peterbilt semi-tractor trailer, driven by 40-year-old Joshua Cordes of Endis, Okla., was traveling northbound on 71 and had stopped to make a left turn into the Nutrien Early Distribution Terminal. At the same time, a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro, driven by 21-year-old Courtney Graffunder of Sac City, was also traveling northbound on 71 and failed to stop for the stopped semi. Authorities say Graffunder collided with the rear of the Cordes trailer. Graffunder sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision. The Iowa State Patrol was assisted at the scene by Sac County Emergency Medical Services and the Sac County Sheriff’s Office.
