The Titans get a big conference win on Monday to move to 5-1 overall and they sit 2-0 in the Twin Lakes Conference tied with Alta Aurelia. The loss is the first of the season for SE Valley though this was not their conference matchup so the Jaguars are 1-0 in the Twin Lakes Conference.

Free throws shooting was the difference for the Titans as they went 18-20 from the line including 15-15 in the 1st half which helped them lead 36-22 at half and by as much as 30-13 in the 2nd quarter. They needed to hit their free throws because SE Valley was knocking down 3’s finishing with 16 made 3’s on the night. Kolson Kruse had 5 in the 1st half and finished with 8 for the game while Sam Hanson had all 5 of his in the 2nd half. Cole Corey was 6-6 from the free throw line in the 1st half and finished 7-8 and Joshua Dietrich was 5-5 at the half and for the game.

South Central Calhoun grabbed their first lead of the game at 8-7 and built that lead to 15-7 late in the 1st quarter. The Jaguars went box and one early trying to take Brennan Holder out of the game and they held him to 2 points in the 1st half but he finished with 17 as they went zone and man to man in the 2nd half. Joshua Dietrich and Cole Corey each had double figures in the 1st half with Dietrich doing his damage inside and Corey able to get to the rim.

The Titans looked in control at half. The Jaguars trimmed the deficit to 9 midway through the 3rd and it kept going from 15 to 9 for most of the rest of the game. The 4th quarter was entertaining as both offenses took over. The Jaguars outscored South Central Calhoun 32-24 in the final stanza. The final score at 6 was as close as they would get.

The Titans had three players in double figures and Joe Clark with 9 points by games end. Joshua Dietrich led the offense attack with 23 points and 5 rebounds. Cole Corey added 20 points and 8 assists while Brennan Holder had 17 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. T’Juan Sanders did a nice job on Kruse in the 2nd half as the Titans started the 2nd half in a box and one until Hanson got hot.

The Titans are on the road Friday at Emmetsburg.

Paton Churdan nabs a nice non-conference win on the road Monday to improve to 2-3 overall. The Rockets had to battle back after trailing the entire game. They started their comeback with 4:00 left in the 4th quarter and dominated the rest of the game outscoring West Central Valley 20-6 in the 4th.

A slow start put the Rockets behind 21-13 after the 1st quarter and the game hung around that 8 point mark until the final minutes of the 4th. Head Coach Bud Fagen was pleased with the poise his team showed. They were balanced in scoring with two players in double figures and everyone else between 6-8 points.

Connor Brus and Joe Carey each had 13 points. Bradyn Smith led the way with 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks. Carey also had 4 assists and 3 blocks. Shaydon Thurman scored 8 points and Riley Cullum and Justin Stream each had 7 points.

The Rockets are home Tuesday to West Harrison.

The IKM-Manning Wolves were able to win their first game of the season in convincing style by defeating the Exira-EHK Spartans Monday night. In the first quarter, both teams had difficulties scoring, but the Wolves were able to escape with a 6-2 lead. Cooper Irlmeier would start off the scoring for the Wolves sinking a free throw as Luke Ramsey would keep the pace going with a three pointer. The Wolves would pick up the pace in the second quarter as their defense put on the pressure. The Spartans were kept to six points as they struggled to find the basket in the first half, leaving the Wolves the lead going into halftime at 18-8. The leader of the first half for the Wolves stats-wise was Luke Ramsey who found himself with eight first half points.

The Wolves came back from the locker room and continued their pressure in the second half. Defense was the highlight of the third quarter as the Wolves ran their zone defense, pressuring the Spartans to make costly mistakes late in the game. The Wolves kept their lead and outscored the Spartans 9-6 in the third quarter. Kyler Rasmussen and Brody Swearingen were the strength of this Wolves team as they would record 12 and nine rebounds respectively at the end of the night. Oddly enough, the fourth quarter was the highest scoring quarter for both teams, with the advantage going to IKM-Manning. Swearingen was dominant in this quarter as he kept getting fed the ball inside the paint and ended up with eight fourth quarter points. When the dust settled, the Wolves were able to pull away with their first win of the season defeating the Spartans 48-27.

 

Individually for the Wolves, Brody Swearingen would end his night with 14 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. Other notable Wolves were Luke Ramsey who ended his night with 10 points, one rebound, two assists, and one steal, and Kyler Rasmussen who had eight points, 12 rebounds, and two steals. The Wolves improve to 1-5 on the season as the Spartans fall to 3-2.

The Wolves will travel to Tri-Center to take on the Trojans on Friday, December 18.
