Ar-We-Va, Audubon Boys Win, Glidden Ralston Falls on Thursday

Boys Basketball Results Thursday, December 17th

AC-GC At Glidden Ralston

AC-GC 79

Glidden Ralston 61

A run midway through the 3rd quarter and into the 4th quarter allowed AC-GC to pull away from the Wildcats and drop them to 2-5 on the season. Glidden Ralston looked good into the 3rd quarter and found themselves down 38-36 but the Chargers closed the quarter on a 26-9 run and then extended the lead early in the 4th quarter. Their lead would grow to 71-47 midway through the 4th quarter.

Kyle Olberding hit maybe the shot of the year in the 2nd quarter. The Wildcats were down 25-19 and the ball was bounding out of bounds in the right corner. Olberding hustled the ball down and came to a jump stop in the corner. He began to fall out of bounds when he flipped the ball up in the air under hand with his back to the basket. It appeared he was trying to throw the ball towards the lane or basket. The ball sailed through the air and swished through the hoop to cut it to 25-22. That basket gave Glidden Ralston some momentum and they would pull within 1 point twice before the halftime. They were down 36-31 at the break.

Once AC-GC got on a roll the Wildcats began to press themselves and hurry in an attempt to make plays and it allowed the Chargers to take advantage and extend the lead.

Glidden Ralston was balanced scoring wise with 9 guys scoring and 8 of the guys finishing with 5 points or more. John Whitver led them with 10 points while Karter Kennebeck added 9 points, Carter Soyer also had 8 points including a couple nice 3’s in the 1st half. Jackson Sklenar led them with 7 rebounds and Cale Klocke had a team high 3 assists.

The Wildcats head to Ar-We-Va on 93.7 KKRL on Friday night.

Ar-We-Va stormed back in the 2nd half after trailing much of the 1st half to pick up their 4th win of the season and move to 4-2 overall. The Rockets started playing better on defense after halftime which helped pick up the offense. They started to knock down a few shots on the offensive end and did a nice job getting to the line attempting 23 free throws. That has become a trend for this team as they have attempted 103 free throws in the last 4 games combined.

Zach Schimmer led the way with 17 points while Will Ragaller added 16 points and 9 rebounds. Rebounding has been a strength lately as well with Cooper Kock pulling down 7 rebounds and Damon Ehlers adding 8 rebounds.

Boyer Valley at Audubon

Audubon 53

Boyer Valley 42

The Audubon Wheelers left their home court Thursday night with a huge upset win against the undefeated Boyer Valley Bulldogs. The Wheelers started off their night of scoring with a three-pointer from Jackson Deist to give them the 3-2 lead early. The Bulldogs would start to creep back and tied it up at 6 points. Deist would once again drain a huge three-pointer to give the Wheelers back the lead at 9-6. The second quarter would be the biggest turning point for the Wheelers as they completely shut down the Bulldogs offense. The Wheelers would find success inside the paint as they scored 17 points while keeping the Bulldogs to a game low four points. Heading into halftime, the Wheelers would have the lead 26-10.

In the third quarter, the Wheelers would allow the Bulldogs to come back just a bit as they scored a game low eight points. The Bulldog’s 14 points was not enough to pull ahead and they would trail the Wheelers 34-24 heading into the final quarter of play. The biggest issue for both teams this game was fouls, two Wheelers would foul out of the game, those being Joel Klocke and Carson Bauer. The Bulldogs found themselves traveling frequently and were unable to score in the paint against the Wheelers’ man-to-man defense. The final quarter of play would be action packed as the Bulldogs were looking to mount a 10-point comeback to stay undefeated. The Wheelers would keep the pressure on as they would only lose this quarter by one point by a score of 18-17. Most of the fourth quarter points for the Wheelers were free throws as they would go 15 of 25. After all is said and done, the Wheelers were able to pull off the upset defeating the Bulldogs 53-42.

Individually for the Wheelers, Jackson Deist would have a team high 18 points on the night, being a consistent threat all night long. Gavin Smith was not too far behind him scoring 16 points. Other scores from the night include Joel Klocke with two points, Ethan Klocke with six points, Carson Bauer with five points, Collin Bauer with three points, and Braden Wessel with one point. The Wheelers advance to 1-5 on the season as the Bulldogs fall to 5-1.

The Wheelers will defend their court next against the Logan-Magnolia Panthers on Friday, December 18.
