The Carroll Tigers fought all night against the Raccoon River Conference’s number one team Ballard Bombers, but fell just short of knocking them off. The first quarter would be all Carroll as they would lead for most of the quarter and end with the 9-8 lead. The returning Ella Collison would lead the team with seven points in that quarter. Collison sustained a knee injury after Tuesday’s contest against Winterset, but was feeling great and was scoring great against the Bombers. Heading into the second quarter against the undefeated Bombers, the Tigers would keep the game close to them going into halftime trailing 19-17. Collison would lead all scorers with 10 first half points. Also scoring for the Tigers that half was Gabi Hammer with five points and Camryn Schable with two points.
The game would take a dramatic shift in the third quarter as the Bombers completely shut down the Tigers. The Bombers would go 13-0 in this quarter and cause many Tiger turnovers. In the final quarter of play, the Bombers would outscore the Tigers again 8-5 and secure the victory for them with a score of 40-22. Collison would be the Tiger’s point leader this game with 10 points.
Other Tigers who scored in this game include Laura Sweeney with one point, Camryn Schable with two points, Kennedy Lein with four points, and Gabi Hammer with five points. The Tigers fall to 3-4 on the season as the Ballad Bombers stay undefeated at 7-0.
The Tigers will stay home to defend their court against Bondurant Farrar on Tuesday, December 22nd.

The Coon Rapids Bayard Crusaders were able to get back to .500 with a dominant win against the Boyer Valley Bulldogs. From the beginning the Crusaders were able to hold on to the lead, which started when Brynn Bass was able to put the Crusaders on top in the first quarter 5-4 draining a three with five minutes left. The Crusaders used that momentum to bring them to a close 15-11 lead after the first quarter. The second quarter was all Crusaders as well as they went on a 13-6 run ending the first half with the 28-17 lead. The Crusaders would finish the first half going nine of 12 from the free throw line and not allowing Boyer Valley to sink any threes. The Crusaders were the opposite as Bass would sink two threes and Mia Leighty would sink a three in the first half.
The Crusaders weren’t as potent in the third quarter as they were in the second as they scored 12 points compared to the Bulldogs’ 10. Crusaders Head Coach Kaitlyn McAlister says Boyer Valley pressed on in the second half, but her team was able to slow them down on both sides of the ball. The Crusaders would finish the final quarter out scoring the Bulldogs 10-7 and run away with the win 50-34.
The biggest asset on the Crusaders offense was Leighty who ended her night with 10 assists along with three points and two rebounds. Bass would be the points leader for the Crusaders posting 20 points along with two rebounds, three steals, and three assists. Other impressive players from this game include Alaya Betts with 13 points and eight rebounds and Breeley Clayburg with six points, seven rebounds, and two assists. The Crusaders improve to 3-3 on the season as Boyer Valley falls to 1-7.

The Paton Churdan Rockets picked up a solid win against the Woodbine Tigers to keep up in the Rolling Valley Conference race. In the first quarter the Tigers would start off with a 4-0 run that was eventually broken with a Rocket bucket to make it 6-2. The Rockets would start to chip away at the Tiger lead and would end the first half down 7-8. This would be the last time the Rockets would trail as they would show up big in the second quarter. Behind Tessa Steimel and her three three-pointers in the first half, the Rockets scored a game high 26 points in this quarter. The Rockets would gain back the lead eventually after going on a 12-0 run late in the second quarter and go into halftime up 33-17.
The Tigers would once again outscore the Rockets by a point in the third quarter 12-11, but the second quarter performance from the Rockets would haunt the Tigers in the second half. The Rockets entered the final frame of play with the 44-29 lead. The Tigers once again outscored the Rockets 15-13 in the fourth quarter, but after the dust settled, the Rockets would come out on-top 57-44. Danielle Hoyle would be a big contributor for the Rockets in the second half as she would score the majority of the Rocket’s points with 13 points.
For the Rockets, Hoyle would end her night with a team high 26 points. Other scorers for the Rockets include Tessa Steimel, 14 points, Hannah Behrens, five points, Camryn Paup, five points, Chloe Berns, four points, and Karissa Stephenson, three points. The Rockets improve to 6-1 on the season as the Woodbine Tigers fall to 5-4.

The East Sac Raiders were able to steal the ball plenty against the GTRA Titans and were able to steal away the game as well. Early in the game the Titans and Raiders kept it close keeping it within two with a score of nine to seven. The defensive pressure from the Raiders worked out well as they ended the night with a total of 15 steals against the Titans. The second quarter was all East Sac as they scored double what the Titans did 14 to seven. Heading into halftime, the Raiders would lead by a score of 23-14.
Back from halftime the Titans were able to come out and start a slow comeback by keeping the third quarter close. The Raiders allowed the Titans to score 10 points compared to their 11 points, but their lead would stay at 34-24 heading into the fourth quarter. The Titans would have the better of the Raiders in the fourth quarter by going 9-4, but this advantage would not be enough to give the Titans the win. The Raiders escape this game by a score of 38-33 and win their first game in the month of December.
For the Raiders Maty Quirk would post a team high 16 points along with two rebounds, two assists, and four steals. Other impressive players for the Raiders include Carly Fischer with nine points, five rebounds, one assist, and three steals and Bree Boeckman with seven points, five rebounds, six assists, and four steals. The Raiders improve to 2-5 as the GTRA Titans fall to 2-6.
East Sac will travel to Southeast Valley to take on the Jaguars before the Christmas break on Tuesday, December 22nd.

The South Central Calhoun Titans were close to keeping their undefeated streak alive, but fell a bit shy as they fell to the Emmetsburg E-Hawks. The Titans would keep the game close in the first quarter leaving the score tied at 12 points. The E-Hawks would pull slightly ahead of the Titans in the second quarter as they ended the first half score of 28-25. Titans head coach Brady Dicks commented on the playstyle of the E-Hawks saying they were able to keep it a half-court game. He added on saying the Titans were getting into a lot of foul trouble throughout the game.
The Titans in the third quarter would struggle a bit as they would be held to a game low six points, the only time they would be held under double digits. The E-Hawk would keep their lead and even extend it to seven points at 38-31. The final quarter of play would be much improved for the Titans as they would outscore the E-Hawks 13-10, but this wouldn’t be enough to give them the win. Coach Dicks says the E-Hawk had the free throw advantage in this game as they shot 33 free throws against the Titans’ 12. The E-Hawk play the spoils to the Titans as they defeat the undefeated 48-44.
The Titans would end their night with three players scoring 10 or more points, those players being Riley Batta, 11 points, Kylee Schleisman, 10 points, and Brielle Korleski, 11 points. Batta would also have a team high five rebounds along with Steig’s four rebounds. The Titans fall to 7-1 on the season as the E-Hawk improve to 4-3.
The South Central Calhoun Titans will travel to MVAO-COU to take on the Rams on Tuesday, December 22nd.

The Audubon Wheelers fell just short of a comeback late against the Logan-Magnolia Panthers Friday night. The Wheelers, coming off a great win against the Boyer Valley Bulldogs, were looking to extend their win streak to three wins and early on the Wheelers were holding their own. The Panthers would escape the first quarter with the lead at 10-8. The team leader in points from the Boyer Valley game, Aleah Hermensen, would bring the same consistency to this game, but would not have too much help. The Panthers would further extend their small lead to five points leading the Wheelers 26-21 at halftime.
Back from halftime, the Wheelers would start to chip away at the Panther’s lead and would outscore them by a score of 11-9 in the third quarter. But, the Panthers would sustain their lead at 35-32 heading into the final quarter of play. In the fourth quarter, the Panthers would ultimately shut down the Wheelers keeping them to a game low six points. The Panthers would pull away in the final frame of the game and defeat the Wheelers 47-38.
For the Wheelers Hermensen would lead the Wheelers with 20 points along with three rebounds and 1 assist. Johanna Sauers and Jaci Christensen would lead the team with rebounds recording nine apiece, just ahead of Katelyn Nielsen’s seven rebounds. The Wheelers fall to 2-5 on the season as the LoMa Panthers improve to 5-1.

Glidden Ralston led most of the way as they picked up their 2nd straight win and head into the holiday break 3-4 overall and 2-4 in the Rolling Valley. For Ar-We-Va they had open looks but couldn’t get shots to fall and slip to 1-6 overall and 1-5 in the Rolling Valley Conference as they get set to travel to Exira-EHK on Tuesday.
There were two ties and a lead change in a low scoring 1st quarter as neither team was having much success on offense. Ar-We-Va got an early 3 from Sara Schurke that put them up 5-4 for their only lead of the game. The Wildcats tied it at 5 at the end of the 1st quarter and then took over early in the 2nd quarter. They went up 8-5 and before extending it to 18-9 and 23-12 at half. Paige Klocke and Gretchen Wallace had big 1st halves with Klocke scoring 8 points and Wallace with 7. Ar-We-Va shot a lot of 3’s and had good looks but were unable to get many to fall finishing with 5 for the game. The Rockets had 4 players score in the 1st half but Jadeyn Smith had a team high 4 points.
The lead hung around double digits most of the 2nd half before Ar-We-Va made a run in the 4th cutting it to 36-29. They wouldn’t get any closer as Glidden Ralston answered with a 6-0 run to make it 42-29 in the closing moments.
The fun battle to watch inside the game was between Jadeyn Smith and Gretchen Wallace. The two seniors have played against each other for 4 years and both had good nights. Wallace finished the game with 12 points and 13 rebounds while Smith ended the game with 9 points and 17 rebounds. Paige Klocke added 12 points for Glidden Ralston along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Morgan Koehler added 9 points and 5 rebounds. Sara Schurke led Ar-We-Va with 10 points and 5 rebounds and Bridget Cameron finished with 7 rebounds.
