The Manning Public Library will now have space to expand as they announce the purchase of a local property. “It is with much excitement and anticipation that the Manning Public Library is moving forward with the purchase of the building located at 123 Main Street […] from the Manning Betterment Foundation,” says librarian, Linda Muhlbauer. “For many years, we were aware of the need for additional space to be able to provide expanded services at the library.” These needs were more clearly outlined in a 2019 needs assessment, and based on that, the library board continued its pursuit of opportunities for growth. Last week, the Manning City Council approved a $150,000 commitment to the expansion in the former Caleris building on the north end of Main Street. That has been combined with other donations and brings the project to 75 percent funded with anticipated full funding in late 2021. “We are fortunate that we have a city council and community members who care about the future of the library and the local resources available to everyone living here, despite it being a small, rural town,” Muhlbauer says. “Their investment is reflective of the pride we have in our community.” More information on the plans for expansion will be coming in the near future. Anyone interested in supporting the project can make donations directly to the Manning Public Library at 310 Main St. Questions can be directed to Muhlbauer by calling 712-655-2260.
