The Audubon City Council is considering revising the regulations for overnight parking in spots in and around the community’s central business district. According to Clerk, Joe Foran, the area in question is primarily south of the square on Broadway Street, Tracy Street and Park Place.
As of right now, only one business is planning to rehabilitate their upper levels for conversion into a living area thanks to a housing pilot grant through the Department of Housing and Urban Development and Iowa Economic Development Authority. However, Foran says they are hoping other businesses will be able to follow suit if this first attempt is a success.
Representatives from Audubon County Economic Development first approached the city council with this request during their Dec. 14 meeting. Foran says they were amenable to the idea but were not ready to take action on it immediately.
Barring any major opposition to the parking ordinance change from residents, Foran expects the council to remove or substantially shift parking limitations in the area.
