Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office Launches Fundraising Campaign For New K9 Unit

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is excited to announce they are planning to add a K9 unit to their department in 2021 and are seeking donations from the public to help them reach their fundraising goal. In a social media post, Sheriff Patrick Riley, said, “The K9 will provide an invaluable tool in investigations and apprehension of individuals involved int eh manufacture and distribution of illegal narcotics in our county. Illegal drug use has direct ties to increase crime rates in areas which include: burglaries, thefts, child abuse, domestic assaults and other violent crimes.” Bringing a K9 unit to the team is a large expenditure, though. The estimated start-up for the program is $25,000 for the canine, training, vehicle equipment, officer gear and more. Those interested in supporting the K9 program can make donations at the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office on the third floor of the courthouse in Rockwell City or mail a check to the address included below this story. All donations are tax-deductible and individual and corporate contributions will be accepted.
