Jefferson Police Officers responded to two accidents on New Year’s Day, the first occurring at about 1:40 p.m. at the intersection of Park and Olive Streets. The initial investigation revealed that Mark Cranston of Jefferson was southbound on Olive in a 2016 Chevrolet G3500 Van and was followed by a 2005 Buick Century, driven by Lola Booth of Madrid. Cranston slowed the van at Park Street, and Booth struck the rear hitch on his vehicle. There was an estimated $1,500 in damage to the Booth Buick and only about $150 in damage to the hitch on the Cranston van. Booth was cited for failure to stop within an assured clear distance ahead. The second reported accident occurred at approximately 9:10 p.m. at Russell and Elm Streets. Jeremy Fister was southbound on Elm in a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe and was turning east onto Russell when he struck a vehicle parked on the street. The Fister Tahoe suffered an estimated $1,500 in damages while the parked vehicle sustained about $2,500 in damages.
