Formal Charges Filed Against Carroll Man Who Accidently Shot Himself In September

Formal charges have been filed in Carroll County District Court against a Carroll man accused of possession of a firearm by a felon. Court records show 50-year-old William D. O’Connor faces one class D felony count with a habitual offender enhancement. He was arrested on Dec. 16 in connection to a Sept. 10 incident in the 200 block of E. 10th Street in which he had accidently discharged a .40 caliber handgun into his leg. O’Connor is barred from possessing a firearm in Iowa due to two felony conviction in Lake County, Ill.: unlawful use of weapons in September 1993 and attempted murder in March 1998. A class D felony carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison and $5,000 in fines. His arraignment hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 28.
