Marilyn Jane Obmann, age 79, of rural Breda, IA, passed away on Monday, January 18th, at UnityPoint Health -Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, IA. Marilyn was born July 18, 1941, to Emil and Ida (Poleske) Witt of Denison, IA. She was baptized on July 24th, ,1941, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and was later confirmed there on March 25, 1956. Marilyn attended and graduated from Denison High School in 1959. Following graduation, she entered the workforce working at a bank in Denison.
On April 15, 1963, Marilyn was united in marriage to Fred Obmann of Wall Lake, IA. The two resided on the farm south of Wall Lake where they lived and raised their family for 57 years. They were blessed with two children, Lynnette and Dennis.  Marilyn enjoyed the simple things in life. She loved her family the most. She worked hard helping her husband on the farm and caring for their home and yard. Gardening her vegetables and tending to her beautiful flowers brought her joy. As her children grew, she created a home where her children’s friends loved to go to laugh and have fun. She adored her six grandchildren. Marilyn did not miss an opportunity to attend as many of their events as she was able but more importantly her grandchildren enjoyed their visits at Grandma’s house. Her infectious laugh and giggle warmed her family’s hearts. Her funny t-shirts, “Grandma Days”, pumpkin carving, afterschool pick-ups, Iowa State games, always having a blanket to share at football games, and baking cookies are some of the many memories her family will carry with them.
Marilyn was very active in the 4-H program serving as leader of two 4-H clubs while her children were active in the program. Later she continued to help on the county level while her grandchildren were in 4-H. Marilyn had a servant’s spirit as she was an active member in the Peace Lutheran Ladies Aide and enjoyed singing in the church choir. She started serving as a Sunday school teacher in high school and then as Sunday School Superintendent for Peace Lutheran Church for many years. She enjoyed assisting her grandchildren grow in their faith while helping with these programs. Her strong faith in God, loving heart, listening ear, and willingness to help others will continue as she has set an example to be followed.
