Two Men Charged With Burglary Following Storm Lake Police Department Investigation

The Storm Lake Police Department reports two people were taken into custody over the weekend following their investigation into a pair of related burglaries. Officers were dispatched at approximately 5 a.m. Saturday to an apartment in the 1500 Block of Seneca Street. Upon arrival, law enforcement learned several subjects had confronted the reporting party about an alleged theft earlier in the evening and had left the premises prior to the officers’ arrival. Authorities located the suspect vehicle a block from the scene. Officers interviewed the occupants and determined 18-year-old Jafet Almendarez of Storm Lake had broken into the vehicle to steal property. Law enforcement alleges the group returned to Almendarez’s apartment to confront him. One of the individuals, 18-year-old Kora Titus Kora of Des Moines, is accused of entering the residence and taking several electronic devices. Following the investigation, Almendarez was charged with second-degree criminal mischief, a class D felony and third-degree burglary, an aggravated misdemeanor. Kora is charged with second-degree burglary, a class C felony, and providing false information to law enforcement, a simple misdemeanor.
