Carroll hung tough for the 1st half but for the second time this season Ballard was able to pull away in the 2nd half. Kennedy Lein helped spark the Tigers early as Carroll got up 5-2 and 6-4. Ballard grabbed their first lead at 8-6 and didn’t trail again but Carroll only trailed 14-11 after the 1st quarter. Carroll pulled within 17-13 early in the 2nd quarter and the lead remained around 6 points until Ballard scored just before half to take a 21-13 lead into the locker room. The Tigers struggled coming out in the 3rd quarter and Ballard took advantage outscoring them 22-9 in the quarter to lead by 21 heading to the 4th quarter.

Kennedy Lein led the Tigers with 9 points and 5 rebounds. Camryn Schable added 5 points and 4 rebounds and Gabi Hammer had 5 points. Laura Sweeney pulled down 5 rebounds and Shay Sinnard did a nice job defensively on Brooke Loewe.
Carroll sits at 7-7 overall and 5-7 in the Raccoon River Conference as they head to Winterset on Saturday afternoon on 93.7 KKRL.

Kuemper keeps taking steps forward and did so again on Friday as they pushed Lewis Central and had a chance in the 4th quarter but fell shot against a team that just fell out of the Class 4A rankings this week. Catherine Mayhall came out on fire early and helped Kuemper take a 8 point lead into the 2nd quarter. Mayhall shot the ball well and continues to extend her range knocking down 6-3’s. Kuemper had 12-3’s overall.
Lewis Central rallied in the 2nd quarter and led by 4 at the half. The Titans scored 25 points in the 2nd quarter. For as much offense as they was in the 1st half both teams struggled coming out of the locker room and combined to score 12 points in the 3rd as the Titans held a 4 point lead entering the final stanza.
Catherine Mayhall paced the Knights with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Kora Thomsen had another nice offensive game with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Brooklyn (Downtown) Gifford finished with 12 points and Akuet Malek added 9 rebounds and 7 blocks and is nearing the school single season record for blocks.

The Rockets had three players in double figures and picked up their 12th win of the season as they move to 12-4 overall and 10-2 in the Rolling Valley Conference. The Rockets had to battle back after falling behind in the 1st quarter. They trailed by 5 at half but as they have done so many times this season they came out of the locker room and played very well. Paton Churdan rallied in the 3rd and took a 1 point lead heading into the 4th quarter. The three point shot was huge again as they connected on 8 of them as a team with Chloe Berns leading the way with 4. Carmyn Paup did a nice job hitting free throws. The defense was clutch in the 4th holding the Tigers to 8 points.
Danielle Hoyle led three players in double figures with 20 points, Chloe Berns is starting to heat up from 3 and added 12 points and Carmyn Paup finished with 11 points.
The Rockets are back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Glidden Ralston.

Ar-We-Va led early but Glidden Ralston was able to take the lead just before halftime and held on in the 4th as they improve to 8-6 overall and 6-5 in the Rolling Valley Conference. Ar-We-Va played one of their better games this season but falls to 3-12 overall and 3-9 in the Rolling Valley.
Ar-We-Va was able to take advantage of some miscues early on and led 12-6 after the 1st quarter. The Rockets had three players finish the game in double figures as they scored in double digits in all four quarters. Glidden Ralston took better care of the ball in the 2nd quarter and went up by 1 at half. After scoring just 6 points in the opening quarter Glidden Ralston scored at least 15 in each of the final 3 quarters. The Wildcats had two players in double figures. The game remained tight the rest of the way with Glidden Ralston up by 4 heading into the 4th quarter.
Gretchen Wallace led all scorers with 26 points, Tiela Janssen added 13 points for the Wildcats and Paige Klocke finished with 7 points. Jadeyn Smith led Ar-We-Va with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Bridget Cameron had 14 points and 11 rebounds as Ar-We-Va had two players with double-doubles. Maggie Ragaller fnished with 13 points and 6 steals. Hannah Kraus added 6 assists.
Both teams are in action on Saturday with Ar-We-Va hosting Ridge View and Glidden Ralston traveling to play Grand View Christian At Saydel.

Huge win for the Wheelers on the road as they moved into 4th place in the Western Iowa Conference and improved to 10-7 overall and 8-5 in the conference. The Wheelers led at the end of each quarter and held the lead near double digits for most of the game. Audubon defense took over the game in the 2nd quarter holding the Panthers to 6 points allowing the Wheelers to extend a 2 point 1st quarter lead to 10 at half. The offense was consistent scoring in double figures in all 4 quarters with a 16 point 3rd quarter their highest scoring quarter.
Jaci Christensen continues to have an outstanding season and had another double-double with 24 points and 14 rebounds. She is nearing the school record for rebounds. Katelyn Nielsen have the Wheelers two players in double figures with 10 points and 7 rebounds. Aleah Hermansen added 9 points and 4 steals and Johanna Sauers pulled down 9 rebounds.
Audubon is off until Tuesday when they host IKM-Manning.

IKM-Manning had 17 steals and blew the game open in the 2nd quarter as they improved to 5-9 overall and 5-7 in the Western Iowa Conference. The Wolves led by 7 after the 1st quarter but double that by halftime. They had 3 girls score in double figures and another player with double figure rebounds. The defense held Tri Center in single digits in all four quarters.
Alexa Ahrenholtz pace the Wolves with 19 points and a team high 7 steals. Taylor Ferneding had a great game with 18 points, Nicole Hanson added 11 points and 5 rebounds, Bianca Cadwell pulled down 13 rebounds and Maci Doyel had 8 rebounds.
The Wolves will head to Audubon on 93.7 KKRL on Tuesday.

You kept waiting for East Sac to break through and they did on Friday night picking up a huge road win against a very good Rebels team that was 13-4 entering the game. The Raiders led at the half and opened up a double digit lead heading into the 4th quarter. Their defense played well holding the Rebels to 6 points in the 1st quarter and 5 points in the 3rd quarter. The win moves them to 5-10 overall and 2-5 in the Twin Lakes Conference.
Maty Quirk, Meredith Brown and Mary Bontrager came up big with Quirk hitting a 3 with 1:50 remaining to extend their lead to 5. Quirk, Meredith Brown and Mary Bontrager each hit a free throw down the stretch to maintain the lead at 48-43 with 32.5 seconds remaining. Bree Boeckman hit a free throw to extend it to 6 with under 30 seconds left and Quirk added a steal with 10 seconds left to seal the win.
Maty Quirk finished with a game high 26 points and 3 steals. Mary Bontrager added 10 points and Meredith Brown had a team high 6 rebounds.
The Raiders will host GTRA on Saturday late afternoon.

The South Central Calhoun Titans would walk away with a difficult loss against the defending 1A state champion Newell Fonda Mustangs on Friday night. The Mustangs would start off the night with their aggressive defense and consistent scoring by going 21-4 against the Titans in the first quarter. The Titans would start to give the Mustangs a little bit of their own medicine as they completed long passes down court and scored quickly. The Titans were able to score a game high 22 points in the third quarter, but this was overshadowed by the Mustangs 37 point quarter. The Mustangs would take a 58-28 lead into halftime.
The large lead for the Mustangs would only get larger in the third quarter as they would score another 22 points. The Titans attempt to stop the Mustangs was to slow down their defensive pressure, which they did do at times. The biggest problem for the Titans would be turnovers. They would end up turning over the ball 29 times Friday night as the Mustangs only did so 12 times. While the fourth quarter would be a much lower scoring quarter and the Titans would win this quarter by a score of 8-7, the dominant performance of the Mustangs nabbed them the 87-43 victory.
Individually for the Titans, Riley Batta would have a team high 16 points along with seven rebounds. Also efficient for the Titans was Kylee Schleisman who ended her night with six points, four rebounds, and four steals. The Titans fall to 10-6 as the Mustangs improve to 16-1.
The Titans are in action next when they welcome West Bend Mallard to their home court on Saturday, January 30th.
