In a game that came down to the wire, the Carroll Tigers were unable to come back and win on Saturday against Winterset. The day for the Tigers started off slower than they would have liked it, unable to get shots to fall for them. Winterset used the Tigers’ slow start to go up 12-2 in the first quarter and end up at 31-20 at halftime.
The second half for the Tigers was much improved as they started to chip away at the Huskies lead. The Tigers would go on a 9-4 run to start the third quarter and would end up down three at 38-35. Kennedy Lein and Gabi Hammer were the two taking charge and attacking the basket against Jena Young for Winterset in the third to get them down three heading into the fourth quarter. The Tigers had the chance to take back the lead in the fourth quarter, being down by one point multiple times. Head coach Katie Kock says her team had great looks in this quarter, but were unable to sink in the crucial shots to gain the lead. The Tigers would be down three late in the fourth at 45-42 and the Huskies were able to make some good calls to pull out a close 50-45 victory.
For the Tigers, Lien, Hammer, and Ella Collison all scored double digits with 10 points each. Also for the Tigers, Addison Klocke and Shay Sinnard scored five points, Laura Sweeney scored three points, and Camryn Schable scored two. The Tigers fall to 7-9 on the season as Winterset improves to 11-6.
The Tigers are in action next when they travel to Bondurant-Farrar on Tuesday, February 2nd.

The Kuemper Knights were tasked with taking on the number one ranked 4A Glenwood Rams on Saturday night but walked away with a crushing loss. The Knights would struggle to score in the first half while allowing the full court pressure from the Rams to get the best of them. The Knights would get some good looks from time to time in the second quarter, but were only able to match their first quarter score of nine. The Rams would post 35 points on the Knights in the first quarter and 21 in the second quarter to lead 56-18 at halftime.
While the Knights knew this game would be a good learning experience for them, they continued to apply pressure on the Rams in the second half. The Knights would move the ball more effectively in the third quarter, and got Catherine Mayhall inside the arc plenty of times, scoring six points in that quarter. The Rams though would continue their dominant ways and push ahead with 17 points in the third quarter, leading 73-29. Wrapping up a dominant performance, the Rams would win the fourth quarter 11-8 and win the game with a final score of 84-37.
Mayhall would end her day with 14 points and an assist. Karly Baumhover would also provide some good looks from behind the arc and would end her day with 6 points. The Knights fall to 4-12 on the season as the Rams improve to 14-2.

The South Central Calhoun Titans were able to bounce back from a difficult loss to Newell Fonda to defeat the West Bend Mallard Wolverines Saturday. From the start the Titans were able to lock in their defensive strategy and execute it properly. The Titans would keep the game at arms length after the first quarter with a score of 19-10. The Wolverines would start to chip away at the nine point Titan lead, getting within five at halftime. The Titans would hold strong in their ways and lead it 30-25 after the first half.
The Titans would continue to keep their five point lead in the third quarter and would add a point to it leading 49-43. Head coach Brady Dicks says what worked well in this contest compared to the Newell Fonda game a day prior was his team was able to share the ball and spread out the points among all the players. The Titans continued to push ahead and keep their lead into the fourth quarter, and were able to shut down the Wolverines 12-6 and win 61-49.
Individually for the Titans, Riley Batta led her team with 26 points. Also scoring big for the Titans on Saturday was Kylee Schleisman, who ended her day with 12 points. The Titans improve to 11-5 as the Wolverines fall to 8-8.

The Ar-We-Va Rockets struggled in the first half and ended up falling to the Ridge View Raptors on Saturday. The Rockets would start off on the wrong foot in the first quarter, only able to sink a single bucket for two points in the entire quarter. Head coach Jeremy Smith says his team did not handle the Ridge View press well enough in the first half, which caused his team to be hurried and not think clearly. The Raptors would use this advantage to jump out to a 30-13 lead before halftime.
The Rockets would start to get into a groove in the second half, with Coach Smith saying they came out and played better, only being beat by two points in the fourth quarter. While the improvement was great in the second half, the first half performance is what did it for the Rockets. The Raptors would end up walking away with this game by a score of 53-33.
The Rockets in this game would be led by Jadeyn Smith who ended her day with 14 points, six rebounds, two assists, one steal, and three blocks. Other Rockets who showed up well in this game were Hannah Kraus who had six rebounds, four assists, and one steal, and Sara Schurke with eight points, three rebounds, one assist, and one steal. The Rockets fall to 3-13 on the season as the Raptors improve to 12-4.

The Coon Rapids Bayard Crusaders struggled all day long in a loss against a strong Exira-EHK team Saturday. The Spartans would jump out and take an aggressive 23-4 lead in the first quarter. The second quarter would feature the Crusaders scoring nine points, but would also show off consistent Exira-EHK scoring. The Spartans would take a 38-13 lead into halftime.
The Spartans would continue to pour on the points in the second half, scoring 20 points in the third quarter while the Crusaders would be left with 9. Head coach Kaitlyn McAlister says the Spartans were able to drain 13 threes in this contest which accounted for the high score. The Crusaders would go scoreless in the final frame of play and drop this game by a score of 72-22.
Alaya Batts would lead the Crusaders with nine points in this game. Three other Crusaders would make the stats sheet, those being Mia Leighty with seven points, Brynn Bass with four points, and Breeley Clayburg with two points. The Crusaders fall to 4-8 as the Crusaders improve to 16-0.
