Sac City Searching For Volunteers To Assist In 2021 RABGRAI Planning

On Sunday, July 25, Sac City’s population will increase nearly sevenfold as the first overnight stop on the 2021 RAGBRAI route. An estimated 12,000 bicyclists and their support teams will need places to shower, sleep and eat that night, plus entertainment for the crowds and volunteers to showcase what the community has to offer. While the event is still more than five months away, Sac City RAGBRAI Organizational Chair, Lance Wilhelm, says they have already started the process of preparing for the summer.

Wilhelm adds that it will take hundreds of volunteers and thousands of manhours for everything to go smoothly. There are many different ways to volunteer your time, including: budget preparations, sanitation planning, fundraising and many more. Wilhelm says they have something for everyone to do, no matter their skillset.

Ideally, they will have enough volunteers that people can avoid doubling or tripling up on responsibilities. Currently, there are about 15 different committees that have been formed, and Wilhelm says getting involved with any one of them is simple.

Wilhelm’s contact information can be found included below this story. Individuals will be split into groups based on their objectives. In addition to the time spent setting up prior to RAGBRAI and working during the event, volunteers will meet at least once per month with their fellow committee members to plan. RAGBRAI is scheduled for July 25 through July 31, beginning in Le Mars and ending in Clinton with overnight stops in Sac City, Fort Dodge, Iowa Falls, Waterloo, Anamosa and Dewitt.
