Carroll At Denison Schleswig

Carroll: 56

Denison-Schleswig: 53

The Carroll Tigers and the Denison-Schleswig Monarchs put on a show Saturday with the slim victory going to the Tigers. The slobberknocker would start off with a 15-15 tie after the first quarter. Throughout that quarter, the score would be tied a total of seven times. The number five ranked Carroll Tigers struggled from the field, going 5-11 and only scoring one of their four-three attempts. The second quarter would feature another six ties with the Tigers failing to make any of their seven-three-point shots. The Tigers would be able to have a slight lead heading into halftime at 28-27.

Heading into the second half, the Tigers would improve some by keeping their defensive game strong and converting points off of turnovers. The three-pointer struggle would still plague the Tigers as they would go one of six from behind the arc. The Tigers would add on to their lead and have the 43-36 lead. In the fourth quarter, the free throw game of the Monarch put the Tigers against a wall. Denison-Schleswig went 8-10 from the free throw line along with an and-one by Carson Seuntjens. Carroll would start to find room underneath the basket and scored more field goals than they did three pointers. Denison would take a one-point lead at 53-52 with 45 second left off a free throw. The Tigers took back the lead again with a Kelin Jones bucket off a rebound at 54-53. The final dagger in this game came from Treyton Goins who would make both his free throws with 1.4 second remaining in the game. The Tigers would win a razor close contest at 56-53.

Individually for the Tigers, Goins would end his day with a team high 13 points along with one steal, three assists, and two rebounds. Nick Macke and Jones would both score in the double digits with 12 and 10 points respectively. The Tigers improve to 15-2 as the Monarch falls to 6-11.

Coon Rapids Bayard At Exira-EHK

Exira-EHK 56

Coon Rapids Bayard 37

Coon Rapids Bayard played just their 2nd game in the last month and it showed as they took a little while to get into a rhythm. They were down 9 at the end of the 1st quarter and were struggling on the offensive end like a team that was using a different starting lineup due to kids not having played or just coming back to practice late this week. Defensively they played well and the kids competed hard.

Gabe Obert had a team high 16 points and Tanner Oswald finished with 9 points and 4 steals; Lance Clayburg added 9 rebounds.

The loss drops them to 5-6 overall and 5-5 in the Rolling Valley Conference. The Crusaders return home Monday to host Woodbine on KIKD 106.7.
