Great Night for Girls Basketball Friday, Area Teams go 8-2

Girls Basketball Results Friday, February 5th

Boone At Carroll

Carroll 60

Boone 34

It was never really close as the Tigers jumped ahead 8-0 from the get go and were the aggressor all night on both ends of the floor. Gabi Hammer did most of the work defensively on Emma Dighton but she got some help from Ella Collison and the whole team was outstanding in helping and recovering on defense. Laura Sweeney twice left her player to help and then rotated back to block her girl’s three point shot. The Tigers dominated the glass and didn’t allow Boone many 2nd or 3rd chance opportunities.

As good as the defense was the offense may have been just as good. It was the best performance for the Tigers this season. Carroll won the opening tip and Sweeney attacked the rim right away. That mentality never wavered as Carroll was up 12-4 at the end of the 1st quarter and 25-12 at half. Carroll had been struggling from beyond the arc but 7 with 7 different girls. They were balanced in their scoring all night long and played very unselfish ball. Camryn Schable and Kennedy Lein were outstanding on the offensive glass. The Tigers blew the game open starting the 3rd quarter on a 7-1 run and were up by 25 heading to the 4th.

Ella Collison led the team in scoring with 11 points while pulling down 8 rebounds. Kennedy Lein added 10 points and 12 rebounds. Camryn Schable added 10 points and 4 rebounds. Laura Sweeney finished with 9 points and 3 assists and Addison Klocke added 6 points.

The win improves Carroll to 8-9 overall and 6-9 in the Raccoon River Conference. The Tigers swept Boone this season and Boone has spent part of the season ranked. Carroll heads to Denison Schleswig on Saturday on 93.7 KKRL.

The Knights were tied at the end of the 1st quarter but opened things up in the 2nd quarter and led by 5 at half.
