The Carroll Police Department responded to two accidents and provided two motorists with assistance over the weekend. The first accident was reported at approximately 9:18 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6. Fifty-six-year-old Ronald Ward of Des Moines was southbound on U.S. Highway 71 in a 2018 Nissan Rogue. As Ward was slowing to turn onto 2nd Street, he was rear ended by a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by 34-year-old Maggie Bieret of Wall Lake. The Bieret vehicle sustained disabling damage and she was cited for following too close. Ward was cited for operating a non-registered vehicle. The second incident was reported at approximately 4:02 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7 in the 200 block of N. Adams Street. Nineteen-year-old Christian Cook of Coon Rapids was backing from a drive in a 2019 Dodge Ram pickup when he struck a legally parked 2014 Chevrolet Equinox, causing functional damage to both vehicles.
