Jefferson Police Department Responds To Two Motor Vehicle Accidents Over Weekend

The Jefferson Police Department reports they responded to two motor vehicle accidents over the weekend. The first incident occurred at approximately 1:32 p.m. Friday at the south entrance to Wild Rose Casino and Resort. A 2006 Ford Focus, owned and operated by Harold Cecil Hiers Jr. of Scranton, was traveling eastbound on Highway 30 and attempted to turn north onto Casino Drive when he was struck from behind by a 2010 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Lynne Pritchard of Scranton. Authorities say slick road conditions prevented Pritchard from adequately slowing. Approximately $1,500 in damage was reported to the Impala and $4,000 to the Focus. No citations were issued. The other accident occurred at approximately 4:23 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of West and Washington Streets. A 2015 Chrysler Town & Country minivan, driven by Keishla Vargus of Jefferson, was traveling northbound on West and collided with a westbound 2012 Dodge Ram, operated by Kayla Willms of Coon Rapids, in the uncontrolled intersection. Approximately $8,000 in damages were reported to each vehicle. Both drivers were checked for minor injuries by Greene County Emergency Medical Services. Vargus was cited for failure to yield to vehicle on right.
