East Sac at IKM-Manning
East Sac: 74
IKM-Manning: 69 (OT)
While it took overtime to get the job done, the East Sac Raiders were able to knock the IKM-Manning Wolves out of the playoffs Saturday. The Raiders and Wolves would struggle for a while to score, both tied at one point and four points. East Sac would start to turn on the jets as Maty Quirk would drain three three-pointers to give the Raiders the 14-9 lead. The Wolves, though, would start to implement their full court defense and start causing turnovers and getting in the heads of the Raiders. The Wolves would struggle to make many baskets in the second quarter, but so did East Sac. The Raiders would outscore the Wolves 9-6 in the second quarter and lead 23-15 at halftime.
Both teams would have a great showing in the third quarter, with the Wolves stepping up their defensive game and the Raiders finding open shots. The big factor for the Raiders in this quarter would be the free throws. They would go to the charity stripe six times and would go eight of 11. But, the Wolves start to get hot from behind the arc as Nicole Hansen and Alexa Ahrenholtz would both drain three pointers in a close third quarter. The Raiders would add two more points to their lead and take a 46-36 into the fourth quarter. Without question, the Wolves best quarter was in the fourth quarter. East Sac would struggle to land shots from behind the arc, whereas the Wolves would be able to nail four three-pointers. The Wolves and Raiders fought for a small lead before Ahrenholtz made the buzzer beating shot to bring the game to overtime tied at 63.
The Wolves would start the overtime period by rattling in a layup by Ahrenholtz to be up 65-63, but East Sac wasn’t done quite yet. The Raiders would be up by three late in overtime and almost gave up the ball to the Wolves. Maty Quirk would be the hero for East Sac as she drained the final two free throws to make it a five point contest with 0.7 seconds left. The East Sac Raiders survive and advance to Tuesday with a final score of 74-69.
Individually for the East Sac Raiders, Maty Quirk would have a fantastic night scoring with a final total of 27 points along with six rebounds, one assist, and four steals. Bree Boeckman was also a strong player for the Raiders, nabbing herself a double-double with 15 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, and one steal.
