Glidden-Ralston at Audubon

Audubon: 45

Glidden-Ralston: 40

The Audubon Wheelers had another close encounter in the playoffs, this time against the Glidden-Ralston Wildcats on Tuesday night. The Wheelers would start off this contest with a big 9-0 run that would be broken up by a Tiela Janssen three pointer. That three pointer would be the only score from the Wildcats in the first quarter as the Wildcats would trail 11-3 going into the second quarter. The Wildcats improved dramatically in the second quarter. They were able to drain a pair of three pointers thanks to Janssen and Paige Klocke, and got consistent from underneath the hoop thanks to a seven point quarter performance from Gretchen Wallace. Both teams would score 19 points in the second quarter, but the Wheelers would hold on to an eight point 30-22 lead.

The Wildcats would keep their first half momentum going in the second half by winning the third quarter 10-6. Kimberly Daily got a rebound off of a missed free throw from Klocke, got it to Wallace on the right block who made the basket and drew the foul. With Wallace’s made free throw, the Wildcats were within two points of the Wheeler lead. The Wheelers would close out the third quarter with a tight 36-32 lead. In the fourth quarter, the Wildcats came within one point of the Wheeler lead before Aleah Hermensen was able to connect from the left corner on an uncontested three pointer to bring the Wheelers back up by five points at 39-35. With 13 seconds left, the Wildcats had possession of the ball and were down 43-40. Paige Klocke would pull up from the top of the key and miss the open three pointer to bring the game to overtime. Hermensen would be fouled, make the final two points of the contest, and end the Wildcats season with a final score of 45-40.

Individually for the Audubon Wheelers, Jaci Christensen would end her night with a team high 19 points along with eight rebounds, one assist, and two steals. AC-GC At South Central Calhoun- Class 2A Region 5

South Central Calhoun: 47

AC-GC: 39

South Central Calhoun never trailed after jumping out to a 7-0 lead thanks to a quick start from Riley Batta who knocked down and early 3 and was huge on the glass in the opening minutes of the game. The Titan defense knew they needed to keep AC-GC out of the line and stop them from penetrating and setting up easy shots at the rim or offensive rebounds. The defense was great in the 1st half and forced the Chargers to shoot from the outside. AC-GC didn’t make a 3 in the 1st half and South Central Calhoun won the rebounding battle with 7 different girls pulling down at least two rebounds in the 1st half. The Titans struggled on the offensive end after the quick start though they were sharing the basketball very well along with cutting back door against the aggressive Charger defense. They led 11-6 after the 1st quarter and went up 22-9 late in the 1st half.

AC-GC made a run in the 3rd and cut the Titans lead 33-29 late in the 3rd quarter thanks to 4-3’s. Brielle Korleski knocked down a big 3 to shift momentum back to the Titans and they led by 8 heading to the 4th quarter. Emma Anderson stopped the next Charger rally after they had again trimmed the lead to 4, Anderson read a pass near halfcourt and stole the ball, finishing the play at the rim for a bucket and a free throw. She hit the free throw to make it a 7 point game and AC-GC never challenged again.

The Titans were led by Brielle Korleski with 16 points and 8 rebounds, Riley Batta finished with 11 points and 9 rebounds and Emma Anderson added 9 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Kylee Schleisman also had a nice night with 5 rebounds and 4 assists.
