Audubon City Council Schedules Public Hearing On FY22 Budget For March 8 Meeting

The Audubon City Council has scheduled the public hearing on their Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 budget for their March 8 meeting. The council held a separate public hearing Monday on the FY22 maximum property tax levy, and no comments were submitted prior to them approving the proposed figure. While called the maximum property tax levy, City Clerk, Joe Foran, notes it does not include all levies available to municipalities, such as debt service. The council is moving forward with a total levy of $20.63 per $1,000 of taxable valuation, a four-cent decrease from FY21’s rate. City leaders are projecting revenues to remain relatively unchanged from the current year at $7.3 million. Foran says this is largely due to several substantial ongoing capital projects.

Audubon’s revenues have been notably above their norm since FY20 as the city received bond revenues and grant funding for the various products. Increases in revenues nearly always coincide with an increase in expenditures, and this is true for next year with an estimated $7.242 million in expenses. Foran says the city only has a few steps left before they finalize the budget; the next being the March 8 hearing.

The public notice for the hearing will be published on Friday, Feb. 19, but a copy of the proposed budget can be found now included with this story on our website. Anyone with questions or comments is encouraged to bring them to city leaders during the March 8 meeting, which begins at 5:30 p.m. at Audubon City Hall.
