Fuel Prices, Across The Board, Jump Over The Past Week

This past week saw some of the most dramatic increases seen in months on fuels of all types. All three heating fuels rose over the past seven days with two making double digit jumps. Propane prices rose $.28 cents for a statewide average of $1.74 per gallon while natural gas prices spiked up by $.21 cents to $3.10 per MMbtu. Home heating oil saw a $.09 increase, ending with an average of $2.32 per gallon. Motor Fuels followed suit and according to AAA Iowa, as of Wednesday, Feb. 17, the price of regular gasoline was up $.08 cents to $2.49, representing a price $.22 higher than this same time one year ago. The national average on Wednesday was $2.54, up $.06 from last week. Retail diesel also went up by $.08 to a statewide average of $2.69, a penny more than last year’s average. The national average, however, is $.10 higher at $2.79.
