Carroll County Conservation is inviting people to give ice fishing a try next weekend as part of a free event at Swan Lake State Park. Participants will meet on Sunday, Feb. 28 at the fish house on the lake’s southern shore from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Conservation staff will have holes pre-drilled in the ice with plenty of space between them to allow for physical distancing. Ice fishing poles, bait and hot cocoa will be provided at no charge, but individuals 16 years and older will need to have a 2021 fishing license. Instructors will be on hand to teach novices the basics of ice fishing and answer any questions. There is no need to RSVP, but individuals should come prepared with multiple layers of warm clothing and waterproof boots. While not required, it is recommended to bring something to sit on, such as a bucket. For more information, contact the Swan Lake Conservation Education Center at 712-792-4614.
