Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Warns Of CenturyLink Scam Reports

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office issued a scam warning today (Monday) concerning fraudulent bills appearing to come from an internet service provider. According to law enforcement, residents in the area have reported receiving a legitimate-looking invoice from CenturyLink. Included with the bill is an order confirmation letter indicating the recipient had registered for some form of service. Authorities encourage individuals unsure of a bill’s veracity to contact the company directly to verify its legitimacy. A phone number is included in the fake bill, and law enforcement stresses recipients should not use this number when contacting the provider. When it comes to scams, either by phone or mail, it is important to remember to never provide any personally identifiable information, such as social security numbers or account numbers, and to be wary of any unexpected contact from unknown sources.
