A Dow City woman has been charged with first-degree murder following an investigation into the shooting death of her live-in boyfriend. According to the Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched at approximately 9:15 p.m. Sunday evening to the home of 46-year-old Jeremy Frank in the 500 block of E. Fulton Street in Dow City after an anonymous caller requested a welfare check. Upon arrival, officers located Frank unresponsive and bleeding. He was transported to Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison by Crawford County Emergency Medical Services where he was pronounced deceased. Authorities say Frank died of a single gunshot wound. Frank’s girlfriend, 44-year-old Beth Guzman of Dow City, was arrested on the murder charge and remains in custody at the Crawford County jail. An investigation into the incident is ongoing with assistance from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Crawford County Attorney’s Office. The Denison Police Department also assisted at the scene. An autopsy is currently pending at the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner in Ankeny.
