Kuemper Sixth Grader Comes Up With Great Idea To Show Appreciation For Area Nurses

A family’s personal healthcare experience has resulted in a project idea that showed a depth of appreciation for area nurses. Kuemper sixth grader, Grace Wolterman, daughter of Brian and Tricia Wolterman of Templeton, says an idea was sparked when her five-year-old cousin had an infection. “Being a nurse, my aunt still had to go to work while her daughter was home with a 104 temp,” she says. “Doctors and nurses give up a lot for their patients and work like heroes! Not [to] mention, these heroes always do their jobs with a smile on their faces,” Grace adds. This past December, Grace, her sister and her Halbur Lads and Lassies 4-H group made more than 280 blessing bags for the nurses at several local facilities, including St. Anthony Regional Hospital and St. Anthony Nursing Home. These were then delivered on Friday, Feb. 12. Each bag was decorated by hand and included a bottle of water, bag of popcorn and a variety of other treats, gift certificates or gift cards.
