Gov. Kim Reynolds ordered all flags in Iowa lowered to half-staff today (Tuesday) to recognize the lives lost during the coronavirus pandemic. On Monday, the United States surpassed 500,000 COVID-related deaths, 13 months after the first positive case was confirmed in the country. Flags will be lowered through sunset on Friday, Feb. 26 at the State Capitol Building in Des Moines, the Capitol Complex and on all public buildings, grounds and facilities throughout the state. Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect. Gov. Reynolds’ order was issued in conjunction with a proclamation from President Joe Biden.
