Audubon Police Chief, Matt Starmer, has announced he will be stepping away from his role as head of the department this summer. Starmer submitted his notice to city officials on Tuesday, Feb. 16 with an effective date of June 1 or until his replacement is hired. According to Clerk, Joe Foran, Starmer will be assisting the council through the hiring process, and applications are currently being accepted at city hall. The city is also looking to hire a full-time certified officer after one of the department’s current employees accepted a position with another law enforcement agency in the region. The city will be utilizing their various part-time officers to fill any coverage gaps until the department is back to full staff.
