Carroll Dominates 4th Quarter in Sub-State Win Over Storm Lake

A dunk by Kelin Jones to end the 3rd quarter ignited the Carroll Tigers and they pull away in the 4th quarter to reach their first Sub-State Final since 2016. The Tigers outscored the Tornadoes 25-11 in the 4th to win going away. Storm Lake was able to control the tempo most of the game but Carroll never trailed and was only tied 6 times. The last was at 28-8 after Storm Lake went on a 6-0 run to tie the game. Carroll largest lead to that point had been 3 as Storm Lake kept hanging around, using their size inside to score. Carroll didn’t get to the free throw line much but hit 8 of 9 which allowed them to maintain the lead around 3 points most of the game. Storm Lake finished 4-11 from the free throw line and had a couple opportunities to take the lead from the line but didn’t convert.

Jones dunk to end the 3rd on a pass from Kaleb Booth put the Tigers ahead 37-34. Kaleb Booth hit a 3 on a set play to start the 4th and Carroll began to pull away. Treyton Goins scored to make it a 6 point game then had a steal, bucket and free throw to extend it to 7. Colby Christensen hit one of the three 3’s and Carroll was up 10.  Another 3 from Booth and Christensen and Carroll was up 14. Storm Lake never got closer than 13 the rest of the game.

Carroll used balanced scoring all night with all 6 guys scoring between 7 and 14 points. Treyton Goins led them with 14 points, Kaleb Booth added 13 points and 4 assists. Colby Christensen also finished in double digits with 11 points while Tory Feldman added 9 points and 6 rebounds. Kelin Jones had 7 points and 6 rebounds.

Carroll will take on Sergeant Bluff Luton in Denison in the Sub-State final on Monday on 93.7 KKRL. The Tigers will look to avenge a loss to SBL in last season’s Sub-State Semifinals. Sergeant Bluff Luton defeated LeMars 48-46. Carroll will enter the game 22-2 while Sergeant Bluff Luton will be 15-7.
