Trial Information Filed Against Carroll Man Ups Drug Possession Charge To Felony

A charge levied against a Carroll man arrested at the beginning of February for drug possession has been elevated to a felony according to trial information filed Monday in Carroll County District Court. Fifty-six-year-old Michael O’Hara Sherrod faces one count of third-offense possession of a controlled substance—methamphetamine, a class D felony with a habitual offender enhancement. Authorities say a camera-shaped pill was seized during a Dec. 5 traffic stop in Carroll and testing from the Division of Criminal Investigation confirmed the substance was methamphetamine. Sherrod has a history of drug-related convictions dating back to 1998 including possession of marijuana with intent to deliver in 2000 and 2010 in Buena Vista and Union Counties, respectively. Sherrod’s arraignment hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, March 11. A class D felony carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison and $7,500 in fines. Authorities executed a search warrant at Sherrod’s residence in the 1000 block of N. Main Street on Feb. 3 and seized nearly a dozen items, including $555 in cash, a scale, multiple containers with green, white and brown residues and glass smoking devices.
