A Texas man faces controlled substance violation and weapons charges in after he was arrested last week in Carroll. According to Carroll County District Court records, a welfare check for 57-year-old Charles Lee Richardson of Bonham, Texas was requested by an outside agency on Wednesday, March 3. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office located Richardson at approximately 1:32 p.m. standing outside his vehicle west of the intersection of 18th Street and U.S. Highway 71. Law enforcement made contact and determined he was in need of medical attention due to signs of intoxication. After he had been checked by Carroll County Emergency Medical Services, authorities conducted a probable cause search and located two containers with methamphetamine and a loaded 9mm handgun with spare magazines. Richardson was taken into custody and transported to the Carroll County jail where he was charged with a controlled substance violation, a class C felony, possession of a dangerous weapon while under the influence, a serious misdemeanor, and public intoxication, a simple misdemeanor.
