A federal grand jury has handed down an indictment on a Glidden man. According to documents filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Iowa’s Central Division, one count of possession of a firearm by a person convicted of domestic violence has been levied against 51-year-old Jamie Christian Hansman. Authorities report finding two German-manufactured firearms, a Westernfield 20-gauge shotgun and a Westernfield .22 caliber rifle, in Hansman’s possession in mid-April of 2020. However, Hansman has previously been convicted four times for domestic abuse and assault in Sac and Carroll Counties between 1998 and 2020. Hansman’s possession of these firearms is in violation of Title 18 of the U.S. Code, which makes it illegal for certain classes of individuals, including those convicted in any court of misdemeanor domestic violence, from shipping or transporting firearms in interstate or foreign commerce, or possessing in or affecting commerce for any firearm or ammunition. A detention hearing has been scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at the Federal Courthouse in Sioux City. Hansman faces not only monetary penalties if found guilty of the charge, but also up to 10 years in federal prison.
