CCSD School Board Will Begin Negotiations With CEA And Consider Extending School Year To May 28 At Monday’s Meeting

Next week’s meeting of the Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education will be starting slightly earlier than usual. Superintendent, Dr. Casey Berlau, says the board has decided to move the regular superintendent evaluation this month to the beginning of the meeting instead of the end.

The evaluation will be held in closed session, but the board is expected to return to open session at approximately 5:40 p.m. The first item of business will be the beginning of contract negotiations with the opening proposal from the Carroll Education Association (CEA).

The district’s administrators will then present updates from their respective buildings, and the board will approve any pending donations and the personnel report. They will then host a second Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 work session and set a date for the public hearing. Berlau says they are still working to finalize figures and the property tax rate, but as it stands, he believes the district remains in a good fiscal position.

The school board will continue updating job descriptions within the district with the high school and elementary music teachers and technology director positions on the docket for Monday. Beralu says he will also be presenting an amendment to the spring semester calendar to account for the five school days missed so far due to inclement weather.

They will finish the meeting with reports from the business office on an addition to the district’s fleet and budget reviews and consider purchasing new servers for the Adams and Fairview buildings. Prior to adjourning, the board will enter an exempt session to discuss strategies for negotiations with CEA and the Carroll Education Support Association (CESA). The Monday, March 15 meeting begins at 5 p.m. in the Adams Elementary boardroom. It is open to the public, but it will also be livestreamed via Zoom. Details on how to attend remotely along with the full agenda can be found included below.
