The “Bird Man of Carroll County,” Naturalist Matt Wetrich, says the recent spotting of a yellow cardinal made here in the Midwest, in Rushville, Ill. is out of the ordinary. However, it is often those types of genetic quirks that catch our attention.
He says this a very, very rare bird.
Wetrich says there are currently hundreds of millions of people watching birds in varying degrees of interest, from those watching out of windows to those who travel the country to go on bird watching expeditions. He says this time of year many species are returning to our area.
Those interested in bird watching can find many different ways to take up the hobby.
The Carroll County Conservation annual winter bus trip to Minnesota for bird watching had to be suspended due to the pandemic, but Wetrich says he is hopeful it will be back this year. More details on that will be aired closer to event registration.
